I have a passion for beautiful living spaces that are comfortable and inviting. There are basic principles of design that, when applied, make our homes a place of refuge, a haven of rest, a place of celebrations, and so much more! It is my intent to use this blog post to share ideas about creating this kind of home and so much more!
I love good design, studying and applying the elements, and enjoying the fruit of such labor. But I also believe there is a higher standard than good design when it comes to creating beautiful living spaces. It reminds me of something my mother taught me growing up – “Pretty is, as Pretty does!” An excellent sense of design, amazing works of art, grand budgets, and exquisite furnishings can work together to create a beautiful picture, but a home is ultimately a reflection of the hearts of those who dwell within. When there is not peace in your heart, it is impossible to have peace in your home.
The Bible speaks words of confirmation to this truth. One such place is Proverbs 24:3 which begins, “a house is built by wisdom….”
What is Wisdom?
Wisdom can be defined as knowledge of what is true or right,
coupled with good judgement.
Proverbs 4:7 tells us that getting wisdom is the most important thing we can do, and in Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus tells us that anyone who listens to His teaching and obeys is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. I believe this says to you and me that a wise person will build his house on a relationship to Jesus Christ by listening to His teaching and being obedient.
Over 2,000 years ago, God sent His only Son, Jesus, to earth to be an example for us to follow, and to ultimately die an excruciating death on a cross as a perfect sacrifice, the price that had to be paid, for every bad thing that you and I have ever done, or will ever do.
The price of sin is death…
But that wasn’t the end! After three days, just as had been prophesied, Jesus defeated death and walked among man again for 40 days before ascending to Heaven to reign with God the Father! The great news is He offers us victory over death when our time on earth is done as well! When you and I admit that we fall short of the glory of God and are helpless on our own, we can accept His sacrifice as the forgiveness for our sin, turn from our selfish sinful ways, and follow Christ’s teachings in the Bible. This is the way to have a relationship with our Creator God.
…but God’s gift to us is eternal life through Jesus!
He comes to live inside of us though His Holy Spirit who leads and guides us each day. It’s God’s special plan – and when we die, we have the promise of eternal life in Heaven! What a wonderful promise for when this life is over, but what a wonderful way to live now!
It is certainly a wise way to live! Many don’t understand and choose to reject this truth. It is my hope that if you don’t understand this, you will stop and pray. Ask God to reveal Himself to you. God promises in the Bible that if you seek Him with all of your heart, He will be found! In fact the Bible also tells us that until you do seek Him, the Bible will be a mystery and hard to understand. But God is always waiting and wanting us to draw near to Him.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father but by me.” Our only hope of knowing God and enjoying His blessing in our lives is through a relationship with Jesus Christ. I start with this, because knowing Jesus is the only solid foundation we can successfully build our lives and homes upon. All other foundations eventually fall apart and eventually disintegrate.
Jesus Christ is truth.
Accepting the forgiveness He offers to pay for your sins is right.
Following & obeying Him is wise!
The starting point for a house is to build it on wisdom. True wisdom is a heart in tune with God through Jesus.
There is so much more to explore, but my heart is that interior design begins in each of our hearts!
Love and Blessings,
